FIVE DREAMS

I have had five dreams that mean a lot to me. 

Perhaps I'll have more as time goes by.

1.  I'm driving across the California desert in a gold Cadillac convertible with Elvis Presley. The King turns to me and says, "True genius works within form."

2. I don't remember the circs at all, but someone somewhere in some dream told me, "The rules don't confine, they define."

3. I'm pitching a story about demons to a man who turns into a demon. To escape from him I have to bite his tongue. After I do this, he tells me, "You have to control your destiny in order to fulfill your destiny."

4. I'm sitting across the table from some guy (the same guy?) having an intense discussion about something, the meaning of life, whatever. He says to me, "If you have the ability to change your mind you've already achieved higher consciousness."

5. I'm on the phone with a former student. As we talk, I leaf through a text so sacred I can't even pronounce the title on the cover.  I'm  looking for underlined passages. Finally I find one. "Obey your master," it says. "Obey your master?" I think, "That's advice for a dog, not for a man."
