POKER
I've been writing about poker since 1988. It's a funny story how I got started... One day I drove by the Commerce Casino in bucolic Commerce, California. Traffic was snarled, so thought I might go in and kill some time. I went in, plunked down my $20 and took a seat in the game. Needless to say, they went through me like a freight train through the wind. Needless to say, I was hooked. Keenly aware that all good addicts need a means to support their jones, I immediately contacted Card Player Magazine and made the following pitch: "Look, I know nothing about poker, but I'm keen to learn, and while I'm learning, I'd like to write about it for (and get paid by) your fine magazine. Kind of a 'rake's progress' for poker." Well, they took the bait, and I've been writing about poker ever since. By now my body of poker writing runs to more than a million words, including five books -- THE PRO POKER PLAYBOOK KILLER POKER: STRATEGY AND TACTICS FOR WINNING POKER PLAY KILLER POKER ONLINE: CRUSHING THE INTERNET GAME THE KILLER POKER HOLD'EM HANDBOOK: A WORKBOOK FOR WINNERS POKER NIGHT: WINNING AT HOME, IN CASINOS, AND BEYOND -- all of which you can order from the send money page.
Submitted for your poker-reading pleasure... An excerpt from KILLER POKER. An excerpt from KILLER POKER ONLINE. An excerpt from THE KILLER POKER HOLD'EM HANDBOOK. An excerpt from POKER NIGHT. And a whole entire novella entitled SURF LAS VEGAS.
Not enough poker for you? Then here's more: a representative sample of my poker writing between the years 1988 and 2004: When I think of the mileage -- and the pleasure -- that I've gotten out of playing poker and writing about poker for all these years, I thank the lucky stars and snarled traffic that blew me into the Commerce Casino in the first place. Even if they did go through me like a freight train through the wind.
